The SPAD is an InGaAs/InP avalanche photodetector specifically designed for single-photon counting applications. The device is intended for operation at bias voltages above the breakdown voltage (in so-called “Geiger mode”), so that a single photon hitting the detector generates a macroscopic current pulse. In combination with a suitable pulse-detection circuit, this device enables single-photon detection in the wavelength range of 0.95 to 1.65 µm. The SPAD described in this datasheet is a back-illuminated device, supplied in a pigtailed 10-pin butterfly package with a single-stage thermoelectric cooler.
